Where do donation funds go?
The Friends use all of their donated funds for specific National Arboretum Canberra projects. These projects are determined in consultation with members of the Friends, the donor, the Arboretum team and the ACT Government.
Since the formal opening of the Arboretum we have helped with a number of fund raising projects. We have created and planted the Friend' Garden atop Dairy Farmers Hill, donated a Zigzag Garden - the salt bush garden in the Central Valley, donated a fire trailer with water storage, retrofitted a utility vehicle with shelving and protection for tools for the twice-weekly working Bees, installed sponsored park benches, published The Arboretum Book (with the second edition now underway), and our annual Arboretum Calendar.
You can guide where your donation funds are directed when you select from a number of categories, including: general donation; supporting tree planting; seat program; Southern Tablelands Ecosystem Park (STEP) site; Harvesting group and the Bonsai group. Or you might like to let us know a particular donation you would like to support.
Very popular have been the large number of park benches installed with funds from the "seat program". These have been installed at various locations around the Arboretum providing significant amenity for visitors. Plaques are installed on the seats with information about the donors or to recognise someone (as requested).
All Friends' Trust Account funds are protected by law and can only be released with the approval of our appointed Trustees.
